2015 1 oz Silver Coin - 150th Anniversary of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
STORY
The Perth Mint is pleased to present a 150th Anniversary of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland coin celebrating the first publication of the Lewis Carroll classic.
Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland was written by English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll and was first published in 1865. The book was an overwhelming literary and commercial success, and the fantasy world of Wonderland quickly became as much a part of English literature as Shakespeare and Dickens.
DESIGN
The coin’s reverse features Alice, the Cheshire cat, and several playing cards around the edge, with the White Rabbit featured on the face of a clock in the middle of the coin. The clock design includes the inscription ‘Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be late!’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark. A quote from the book, “Oh my ears and whiskers, how late it’s getting!” is also included on the back of the clock in a spiral form.
The quartz movement of this watch operates on one SR416SW silver oxide battery. The battery should be replaced every three years or whenever timekeeping becomes erratic.
PACKAGING
The coin is housed in a clear latex display case with a black border and a white pattern. It is presented in a colourful shipper featuring beautiful Alice in Wonderland illustrations, which opens to reveal the coin and a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
