Part of Back to Future 30th Anniversary Coin Series
In 1989, teenage time traveler Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) returned to theaters in Back to the Future Part II, the sequel to director Robert Zemeckis’s original sci-fi comedy classic. As the story unfolds, Marty and his temporal travel guide, Doctor Emmett Brown (Christopher Lloyd), flash forward in time to the exotic future environs of Oct. 21, 2015.
To commemorate that date, the Perth Mint has released two coins.
This coin is meticulously struck from 99.9% pure silver in proof quality in a 2 oz size. The reverse of the coin features an image of Marty McFly’s hoverboard as it appeared in Back to the Future II. The inscription HOVERBOARD also appears in the design. The Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination, the coin’s weight and fineness, and the 2015 year-date are shown on the coin’s obverse.
