Carl Fabergé couldn’t anticipate that the Constellation Egg would be his last masterpiece designed for the emperor Nicholas II. This outstanding Easter gi for Tsarina Alexandra Feodorovna was intended to mark the birth of Tsarevich Alexei. The jewel was made of engraved cobalt glass featuring the constellation of Leo – the Zodiac sign of the heir to the Russian throne. According to the project, the surface of the egg was intended to be decorated with miniature diamonds shimmering like stars in the sky, and enframed with a silver ring. There is a clock inserted into the egg. Regretfully, the gi hasn’t been accomplished due to the Russian Revolution of 1917.
Obverse: Features "Third Imperial Egg" as well as a small profile of Queen Elizabeth II that appears to be floating above the egg in detailed bordering.
Reverse: Features a engraved cobalt glass insert. The insert is engraved with the constellation of Leo, the Zodiac sign of the heir to the Russian throne. On the outside ring of the insert is the symbols of a clock. The outside includes additional constellation images.
