This Premium Bullion Coin struck from 99.9% silver is the fifth release in the Mandala Wildlife Series and is dedicated to the Buffalo. The motive features a detailed image of the Buffalo in an extraordinary mandala design. Additionally, the denomination, fineness and weight of the silver bullion coin are depicted. The reverse shows the coat of arms of the Republic of Chad - a shield held by a goat and a lion. Below the shield is a medal and the French national motto "Unité, Travail, Progrès" (English: "Unity, work, progress").

The buffalo is one of the so-called "Big Five" along with lion, elephant, rhinoceros and leopard. Buffalos live in herds of a few dozen to hundreds of animals and prefer shady grasslands and river valleys with good water supply all year round. They rarely change the precinct they wander through on footpaths to their water-places.
