Crocodiles (family Crocodylidae) or true crocodiles are large semiaquatic reptiles that live throughout the tropics in Africa, Asia, the Americas and Australia. The term crocodile is sometimes used even more loosely to include all extant members of the order Crocodilia, which includes the alligators and caimans (family Alligatoridae).

The reverse of the coin presents an image of a very scary crocodile with its mouth open and its teeth clearly visible while in its natural habitat. Despite having the strongest bite in the world, many crocodile species are on the list of endangered animals. This brand-new spectacular series honours them.
The obverse of the coin presents the Coat of Arms of Burundi and the inscriptions: “IBANKI YA REPUBLIKA Y’ UBURUNDI” – the country of issue, “100 FRANCS” – the face value, “2023” – the year of issue and “5 oz Ag 999” – the weight of the coin and the fineness of the Silver.
