Dresden Green Diamond
The Dresden Green Diamond, also known as “Dresden Green”, is a 41 carats (8.2 g) natural green diamond, which probably originated in the Kollur mine in the state of Andhra Pradesh in India. The Dresden Green is a rare Type IIa, with a clarity of VS1 and it is said to be potentially internally flawless, if slightly recut. It is named after Dresden, the capital of Saxony, Germany where it has been on display for most of the last two centuries. Today, the diamond is shown in the “New Green Vault” at Dresden Castle.
The reverse of the coin depicts the King Augustus III of Poland, the owner of the Dresden Green Diamond that is represented on the middle of the coin by a beautiful green crystal. On top of the reverse, the inscriptions: “MOST FAMOUS DIAMONDS” – the name of the series and “DRESDEN GREEN DIAMOND” – the name of the coin. On the bottom, the inscription: “40.7 CARATS” – the weight of the original diamond. On the left, the inscription: “2017” – the year of issue. The obverse of the coin features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the inscriptions: “ELIZABETH II” – the name of the Queen, “COOK ISLANDS” – the issuing country and “10 DOLLARS” – the face value.
