History of Sé Catedral Sé Catedral is the cathedral of the Catholic diocese of Macau, which was founded in 1576. It is commonly known as the hall and is located in the front of the hall of Macau. Above the church's front door is carved a Latin inscription that reads "S.S.M.V.MARIAE NASCENTI," which means "dedicated to the virgin Mary of the nativity," confirming the church's name. Before 1576, the cathedral was originally a small wooden church with many Catholic relics and monuments. After being badly damaged by a typhoon in 1836, it was rebuilt in 1849 by Jose Tomas d 'Aquino, a native Portuguese architect in Macao, and completed in 1850, which laid the foundation for the simple and elegant style of the church.
