Hemp or industrial hemp (from Old English haenep), typically found in the northern hemisphere, is a variety of the Cannabis sativa plant species that is grown specifically for the industrial uses of its derived products. It is one of the fastest growing plants and was one of the first plants to be spun into usable fiber 10,000 years ago. It can be refined into a variety of commercial items including paper, textiles, clothing, biodegradable plastics, paint, insulation, biofuel, food, and animal feed.

The reverse of the coin presents two beautifully detailed golden Hemp leaves over a background design of many other leaves. On top of the reverse, the inscriptions: “THE GOLD LEAF COLLECTION” – the name of the series and “1 OZ .999 FINE SILVER” – the weight of the coin and the fineness of the Silver. On the bottom, the inscriptions: “Hemp Leaves” and “2017” – the year of issue. The obverse of the coin depicts the Coat of Arms of Samoa and the inscriptions: “SAMOA” – the issue country and “$5” – the face value.
