This beautiful silver coin is new issue in “Great Commanders” series, featuring Leonidas the most famous the warrior in an ancient Sparta, who embodied the virtues of courage, discipline, and unwavering loyalty to his people. He was famed for leading his army of 300 warriors in the pivotal 488 BCE Battle of Thermopylae against the might of the Persian Empire. Leonidas’ leadership and tactical brilliance were instrumental in holding off the Persian forces for days, despite being vastly outnumbered.
Leonidas means lion-like in Ancient Greek. A fitting name for the King if the Sparta as his lion-like courage made him one o the greatest commanders in history.
