Nefertiti, whose bust is displayed in the Egyptian Museum in Berlin, is considered to be one of the most beautiful, mysterious and famous Queens of Ancient Egypt. Who was the mysterious beauty? Queen Nefertiti's bust is one of the most famous art treasures of Ancient Egypt and is considered to be a masterpiece of sculpturing. It was made during the reign of Pharaoh Echnaton around the year 1340 B.C. During excavations in the studio of the sculptor Thutmosis on December 6th, 1912 in Armarna, the German Egyptologist Ludwig Borchardt discovered Nerfertitis bust. The Berlin cotton merchant James Simon financed the excavation. In January 1913, with the approval of the Egyptian Supreme Council of Antiquitiy, the bust was brought to Germany. Today it is the main attraction of the Egyptian Museum in Berlin. So far, in comparison to other portraits or relief representations of Queen Nefertiti, the bust is the only object in which the left eye is missing. | |
