The northern polar light, scientifically called aurora borealis, is formed in polar regions when energetic particles from the terrestrial magnetosphere hit the atmosphere. Polar lights often appear on the geographic latitude of the Yukon, and in winter the spectacular light effect is a great attraction.

Since first being minted by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1988, the design of the Silver Maple Leaf has undergone annual changes that include proof releases, various privy marks, holographic enhancements, and commemorative variations. However, the basic features of the Silver coin have remained the same since its inception. The obverse of the coin depicts the likeness of Queen Elizabeth II, and the reverse of the coin showcases the signature Maple Leaf so closely associated with Canadian nationalism and reflective of Canadian pride.
On the reverse side of the maple leaf (maple leaf) surrounded by the country legend 'Canada', the fineness of 9999, as well as the fine weight, fine silver 1 oz Argent pur (fine silver, 1 ounce silver pur)
The obverse features the right-profile portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s image was crafted in 1998 by Rank-Broadley, and it represents the fourth generation image of the Queen on commonwealth coinage
