The Welcome Stranger nugget was found in 1869 by John Deason and Richard Oates at a location close to the surface in the roots of a tree located near a river. It weighed 72 kg and contours were strangely similar to the contours of the Australian continent.
The commemorative coin features a depiction of the Welcome Stranger nugget by master coin designer Stuart Devlin AO gilded in 24-carat gold. Also included in the reverse design are the inscriptions‘WELCOME STRANGER 1869’, ‘AUSTRALIAN NUGGET’, ‘2019 1 oz 9999 SILVER’, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
The coin’s obverse portrays the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination.

The coin is housed in a classic display case. Packaged within an illustrated shipper, each coin is accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
