The eighth issue in the series "Our Solar System" is dedicated to Uranus. The coin was struck from one ounce of 99.99% pure silver and features a colored representation of the planet Uranus. The planet Saturn as well as the radiant sun are indicated in the background. Also included are the inscriptions "CANADA" and "FINE SILVER 1 OZ ARGENT PUR". The reverse of the coin features the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of issue and the denomination "5 DOLLARS".

Uranus is the third-largest planet in our solar system after Jupiter and Saturn and four times the size of the Earth. Its orbital period around the sun is 84 years. The blue gas giant first became known after it was discovered by William Herschel on March 13, 1781. It consists mainly of hydrogen, helium and methane and has, according to current knowledge, a total of 27 moons - the four best known of its moons are called Ariel, Umbriel, Titania and Oberon.
