With a diameter of approx. 12,100 km, Venus is the third smallest planet in our solar system. Besides the moon the Venus is considered the brightest star in the night sky. Because the Venus is only visible in the morning and evening sky, the planet is also called the morning and evening star. Although it is a terrestrial (Earth-like) planet, Venus differs significantly from Earth, especially with regard to its atmosphere. In 2020 Venus became the focus of science again. Despite the rather hostile conditions on the planet the gas phosphine - an indicator for biological processes - could be detected there recently.
