- Anniversary issues.
Since first being minted by the Royal Canadian Mint in 1988, the design of the Silver Maple Leaf has undergone annual changes that include proof releases, various privyji marks, holographic enhancements, and commemorative variations. However, the basic features of the Silver coin have remained the same since its inception. The obverse of the coin depicts the likeness of Queen Elizabeth II, and the reverse of the coin showcases the signature Maple Leaf so closely associated with Canadian nationalism and reflective of Canadian pride.
The ‘Voyageur’ image on the reverse is identical to the original 1935 release and depicts a canoe, carrying a Voyager and his guide, loaded with furs for trade. The back of the field holds all the wonder of untamed Canada, an island of pines, radiating with the light of potential. Also on the reverse, the Canadian maple leaf seal, 150 year marker and a unique, precision cut rim of shimmer-enhancing radial lines.
The obverse of the coin features a simplistic profile of Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, as well as the denomination and the year of release. The obverse image was designed by Susanna Blunt, while the iconic reverse features the work of renowned Canadian sculptor, Emanuel Hahn.
