The 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, based on L. Frank Baum’s children’s book published in 1900, is one of the most watched movies of all time. Dorothy’s adventures in the Land of Oz have become familiar to multiple generations thanks to the film’s catchy soundtrack, quotable script, and memorable characters. This beautifully coloured coin is the perfect keepsake for those who remain enthralled by the cinematic masterpiece 80 years on.
The reverse of the coin depicts Dorothy with the Scarecrow, Tin Man and Lion on the Yellow Brick Road with the Emerald City in the background. Also included in the design is The Wizard of Oz logo which includes the ruby slippers TM, the inscription “CELEBRATING 80 YEARS” and The Perth Mint’s traditional ‘P’ mintmark.
