Product Overview
The "Subtropical Zone" is the second issue of the 5-part series "Climate Zones of the World" with a color polymer ring. The series is due to end with the "Polar Zone". The color of the translucent polymer ring takes inspiration from the typical climate of each zone (red for a hot zone, violet for cold). ). All coins of the Subtropical Zone have a translucent polymer ring in orange. The coin design by artist Patrick Niesel shows a typical scene for this zone. The value side was designed by the artist Stefanie Radtke and shows the federal eagle, the lettering "BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND", "5 Euro" and the year 2018. There are slight variations depending on the mint (A, D, F, G, J) so that even here it is possible to differentiate between them.
2018 5 Euro Germany "Subtropical Zone" coin (Karlsruhe "G" Mintmark) when examining it in a capsule:
-
UV / Blacklight Reaction: The translucent orange polymer ring contains specialized nano-pigments designed as a latent security feature. When exposed to a long-wave UV light (~365 nm), the ring reacts and fluoresces/glows.
-
Phosphorescence (Glow-in-the-Dark): It does not glow in total darkness on its own (it isn't photoluminescent/glow-in-the-dark) — it requires active UV light to trigger the glow.
-
Capsule Impact: Standard acrylic coin capsules are UV-translucent, meaning the light will pass right through the plastic casing and ignite the ring's fluorescence without needing to remove the coin from its capsule.
- 2nd Issue of the Series Climate Zones of the Earth
