The reverse of the coin depicts Blackbeard, the pirate who commanded a formidable pirate ship named the Queen Anne's Revenge. This ship was originally a French slave ship called La Concorde, but Blackbeard and his crew captured it in 1717 off the coast of Saint Vincent in the Caribbean.
The obverse of the coin shows a skull with several elements recalling piracy, the sea and the quest for freedom. All around, the inscriptions: "BARBADOS" - the issuing country, "5 DOLLARS" - the face value, "2 OZ" - the weight of the coin and "Ag999" - the fineness of the Silver.
