This impressive 5 oz silver coin is dedicated to King Leonidas; features a detailed image of Leonidas, one of the most famous kings in Greek history the famous and valiant king of Sparta.
The reverse depicts Leonidas moving forward, with his shield covered with blood, his mouth opened, as if he was screaming, and with a sword in his right arm. Behind him, other valiant soldiers. The reverse also includes a frame with a Greek pattern on the rim of the coin.
The obverse of the coin depicts Leonidas’ shield, finished with a splatter of blood red paint to emphasize the grueling battles that happened during those times. At the bottom, the Coat of Arms of Chad. Around the obverse, the inscriptions: "REPUBLIQUE DU TCHAD” – the country of issue, “2023” – the year of issue and “25000 FRANCS CFA” – the face value.

Leonidas I of Sparta was Warrior King of the Greek city-state of Sparta. Leonidas I was born around 540 BCE in the Greek city of Sparta. Leonidas had a notable participation in the Second Greco-Persian War, where he led the allied Greek forces to a last stand at the Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC) while attempting to defend the pass from the invading Persian army; he died at the battle and entered myth as the leader of the 300 Spartans. While the Greeks lost this battle, they were able to expel the Persian invaders in the following year.
